How Long Does It Take to Charge an Electric Car?

2022 Kia EV6 Charging
Electric car charging times vary depending on the EV make and model—but primarily on the method of charging. There are three speeds of EV charging:

  • Level 1 Backup Charging: Most EVs come with a Level 1 charger to use as a backup power source or for topping off charge levels. These can be plugged into a standard household outlet, but getting a full charge can take several days.
  • Level 2 At-Home Charging: Most EV drivers elect to hire an electrician to install a Level 2 wallbox. With this method, most EVs can be fully charged overnight.
  • Level 2 Public Charging: You can find these chargers at Live Oak-area gas stations, grocery stores, and other facilities. They charge at the same rate as your home charging system.
  • Level 3 Public Charging: DC Fast (Level 3) chargers are the fastest charging option, and can provide a full charge in an hour or less!

Kia Electric Car Charging Times

The Kia lineup now includes two all-electric vehicles: the EV6 subcompact SUV and the Kia Niro compact SUV. Both are propelled by an electric motor that is powered by a rechargeable battery. Here’s what Macclenny drivers should know about their electric car charging times:

  • With an 800V DC fast charger, the Kia EV6 can add up to 217 miles of range in just 18 minutes. A 240V charger installed in your garage can provide a full recharge overnight.
  • A 220V Level 2 home charger can provide the Niro EV with a full charge in 9.5 hours, and a 440V Level 3 Fast Charger can fully charge the battery in 1.25 hours.

Level 2 and Level 3 chargers are popping up all over the Gainesville area, so it’s getting easier all the time to plug into the grid! Your Kia EV can even point you to the nearest publican charger while you’re on the go.

Plug-In Hybrid vs. Electric Car Charging Times

We’ve covered how long it takes to charge an electric car, but what if you’re not quite ready to go fully electric? A plug-in hybrid (or PHEV) may be the perfect solution for you—and the Kia lineup includes no fewer than three PHEV SUVs to choose from! Charging times for PHEVs are much lower than electric car charging times, typically between one and four hours with Level 2 charging.
